Recently my thoughts and talk are focused toward living with a more informed knowledge base about essential oils, which is different from looking at the bottle and sniffing the scent. There is so much more to know about these gifts to us from the planet. Sustainability awareness is also important when we use these gifts for enhancing our Well-being and Wellness regimen.
In upcoming segments on my Wellness Connections Podcast, as well as, in this blog I will share new ideas that I am exploring in learning about the safe and best methods to use essential oils. This includes websites, blogs, and books. For this month’s contribution, I’d like to introduce you to the recent book by Jade Shutes, “The Carrier Oil Palette”. I like to describe her as a Wellness polymath.

Based on recent observations, I believe that COVID-19 has sparked a new interest in the role smell can play in our well-being.
As a Certified Aromatherapist, I am trained in the role that aromatic tools can be used to assist in an individual’s wellness regimen. In fact, it is currently one of methods used in Integrative Medicine, which complements a person’s conventional medical program. Not as a replacement but in addition to. Users of Aromatherapy are advised to check with their doctors before engaging in these methods.

That is what I recognized when I first took a class with Amy Anthony at the former New York Institute of Aromatherapy.
I was actually “hooked” by Amy’s passion for plants and essential oils. Her knowledge base is extensive. She lights up the room with her “plant energy“.
Amy is a certified clinical aromatherapist. She has studied Herbalism, and has an in-depth “poetic” knowledge of plants. One of the places she teaches is the New York Botanical Gardens. The list is long of her accomplishments, and I encourage you to visit her website.

Since the summer season of 2020 has started, let me share with you something that I truly enjoy at this time of year – Hydrosols aka Hydrolats.
HairBlues followers know that I am an essential oils enthusiast, and that I use them as a Complementary Assisted Method (CAM) for wellness enrichment. What makes essential oils even more attractive to me is that every time I attend a webinar about them, people from all over the world are also attending, trying to figure out how, when, and why these “gifts” from plants can help us. In her book “Hydrosols, The Next Aromatherapy”, Suzanne Catty refers to aromatherapy as a branch of “phytotherapy” (plant therapy).
The study of aromatherapy continues to give me “Aha moments“. In my research I find that the story continues – that essential oils can provide therapeutic benefits, which make one feel and live better. Suzanne Catty defines hydrosols as the equivalent of a homeopathic version of essential oils. The news lately about COVID-19 has been disturbing. However, I want to take a “mindful time-out“ to put visual concepts of beauty in this post to remind us that our planet is still filled with beauty. And, once again to remind us that we must try to see more than our current troubles.
As some of you know from following HairBlues, I am a certified aromatherapist, grounded in the wellness remedies of plant therapy and essential oils. So, in this post I want to introduce you to the essential oil, ‘May Chang‘. In my own experience, one whiff of ‘May Chang‘ essential oil quickly reminds me of peace and calmness. I am aware that because I live on this planet, there are those who distill the plants and flowers. Their work and process bring this fine oil to me. I am further comforted by the accumulated knowledge of those who work with essential oils at a level that I have a newfound respect for.
