Skincare News for 2016

canstockphoto19653570I don’t know about you but I have spent a ‘pretty penny’ trying to find the best skin care products to use.  It’s an expensive dent in my budget.  That’s why when I read this article in the March 2016 Real Simple Magazine, I could not wait to share it with you. Of course we all have our ‘favorites’ when it comes to skin care, and so do our faces :).  However, one should experiment occasionally when adding a new product to our skin care regimen.  Here are some of the highlights of what the dermatologists had to say.

♦ According to Heather Rodgers, M.D.  washing your face twice a day is not required because your skin protects it. For example, once you’ve cleaned your face in the evening, the next morning you only need to rinse it with water. Dr. Rodgers recommends Eucerin Gentle Hydrating Cleanser ($6.00) – Eucerin Products

♦ Elizabeth Hale, M.D. advises that it’s very important to use Sunscreen every single day.  Foundation, which has sunscreen does not protect your skin. She recommends L’Oreal Paris Age Perfect Hydra-Nutrition SPF 30 Day Lotion *$20.00)  –L’Oreal Products

♦ Roc Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream ($23.00) shows beneficial change. –Roc Retinol Products

These are just a few  of the suggestions in the magazine article. There is a wealth of information worth purchasing the magazine for.canstockphoto14043393

♦ Best BB Creams for Every Skin Concern  – BB creams quickly went from trend to staple after women learned that using them could slash a few steps from their daily beauty routine. Somewhere between a foundation and a tinted moisturizer, BB creams provide light coverage to help hide imperfections, but are also laced with antioxidants and sunscreen. Source: Skincare | Real Simple

Blackhead Misery & Solutions

blackheadsMost of us have experienced a Blackhead or two.  I once ‘popped’ one and the next day I had a huge red bump on the top of my nose.  Needless to say, I was not happy.  It took almost a week before the sore spot healed.  I did not do that again. Below are suggestions for getting rid of blackheads without damaging your skin.

  • In order to prevent the appearance of blackheads you should follow a strict skin care regime. Daily skin cleansing is essential. Wash your face at least twice a day using oil and alcohol-free formulas. Exfoliate three times per week apply the exfoliator in circular motions to all affected areas, normally the nose, forehead and chin. The exfoliation encourages a newer, smoother skin surface by helping to unclog pores, prevent further breakouts and diminish blemishes and pigmentation spots.Source: How To Get Rid Of Blackheads | The Beauty Book

2016 Resolutions

canstockphoto17647672

Happy New Year!  It’s that time again.  Yes, the time when we vow to lose weight, eat healthfully, and generally put ourselves ‘on the spot’ to clean up our eating and exercise habits.  Well, don’t despair on how you will get that done.  Give yourself a little help and get ‘Fooducated’ by visiting the Fooducate.com website.

Here’s a little preview on how they encourage us:

Don’t give up. There is a way to tame the beast, just read on. In order to succeed, your weight loss resolution has to be quantifiable, feasible, and piecemeal.

We’ll explain:

1. Quantifiable. Don’t generalize about weight loss, define a specific goal – “I want to lose 25 pounds” or “I’ll weight 155 by July 4th”. Being specific forces you to be more accountable to yourself.

2. Feasible. Let’s face it, not all of us have the body type of a Victoria’s Secret model or a Quarterback. Set a goal that is achievable for you. Err to the easier side. You can always add another goal if your first one was easily achieved.

3. Piecemeal. Losing 25 pounds is quite a hefty goal. It will take a long time to get there. During that time, there will be moments of doubt, days where the scale moves in the wrong direction, and other unpleasant surprises.

Breaking down your goal into 5 pound increments can be extremely motivating. Instead of waiting 6 months for success, within a matter of weeks you can attain your first milestone. Each small victory will act as a huge motivator for you to keep pushing.

How will you succeed in 2016?

Looking for Hair Loss Solutions

canstockphoto14539757Anyone dealing with hair loss knows that it is a continuing conversation.  Sufferers of alopecia, who have no remedies for lost eyebrows, lost eyelashes, and balding are always open to suggestions and remedies for this condition.  It is a welcoming fact that now women (and men) feel comfortable enough to wear their heads bald as ‘beauty’ statements.  However, many other alopecia victims remain uncomfortable.

I am often on the www looking for and researching topics I find useful and interesting. Recently, I was told about a product called neuHAIR.  This NEUHAIR2product promises to: 1) provide nutrients to the hair and scalp, 2) deliver thicker hair, 3) give the hair volume.  The cost: $150.00 .  The company stands by their product and gives you a 90 day guarantee return policy.  neuHAIR also has products for eyebrows and eyelashes. You can read more about it  by clicking this link – neuHAIR

Fooducate | eat a bit better

FYI

There is every reason to read on a regular basis the information from the Fooducate APP.  The report listed below was found on their site. http://www.fooducate.com/.  Join in and learn about the  nutrition details of the groceries you buy regularly.  In the meanwhile, here is the latest information on processed meat that hit the news headlines recently.

canstockphoto20748505

You may have already heard the news. The World Health Organization (WHO), published the findings of a massive meta-study, correlating the consumption of processed meats with colorectal cancer.

Over 800 studies from the last decades were reviewed by a team 22 of scientists working for the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a WHO subsidiary.

The findings:

* Each 1.5 ounce portion of processed meat eaten daily increases the risk of colorectal cancer by 18%.

* People who consumed the most processed meats – bacon, ham, hot dogs, and sausages – had a 17% higher risk of colorectal cancer compared to people who consumed the least.

* The absolute risk can be explained as follows: in the UK, 61 out of 1000 people will contract colorectal cancer in their lifetime. 66 out of 1000 habitual processed meat eaters will get ill vs. just 56 of the light eaters.

* Inconclusive evidence has tied consumption of processed meat with stomach cancer.

* Limited evidence found that increased consumption of red meat – beef, lamb, pork –  probably causes cancer.

* The preparation technique of the meat was not found to be a major factor in determining the risk level.  However, preparing meat at high temperatures or in direct contact with a flame or a hot surface, does produce more carcinogenic chemicals than other methods of cooking.

What does all this mean for the average American? It’s simple – if you are a meat eater, try to limit your consumption of red meats and processed meats. You don’t necessarily need to abstain. However, you should eat more vegetables and fruits. Same advice as always.

4 Reasons Why You Should Use Lemon Essential Oil

cold_picI’m wondering if the allergy season is coming later this year. Usually I suffer sneezing, itchy throat, and coughing during the month of September. However, the past two days I am surprised to find these symptoms of allergies are in full force. I reached for my newly purchased The Essential Life book to find a remedy right away. The remedy: Take 2 drops of lavender, 2 drops lemon, 2 drops peppermint one of three ways. You can learn more about essential oil reference materials, history, and research on the upper right corner links of this blog. Mobile devices can click Menu to find information about Essential Oils.

(1) Detox – Putting a couple drops of lemon essential oil in your water helps to keep the bile in your liver flowing, thus self-cleansing of this most important organ.  Warm lemon water also promotes peristalsis (contraction and movement) in your bowels, so you feel less backed up.

(2) RelieveUpset Stomach – When you have an upset stomach, sip warm water with a couple drops of lemon oil.  Lemon alkalizes the body, and changes “sour stomach” back to normal.

(3) Mood Enhancer – Many of us have a slump in the afternoon, where we have had lunch and just want to take a power nap.  When I feel like that, I put a few drops of lemon essential oil in my diffuser and enjoy the mood lifting feeling.

(4) Cleanser –  Lemon oil is antibacterial, and is commonly used in household cleaners.  I made my own* and keep a bottle in the kitchen. …
