Hairblues followers already know that I am a makeup fan. During this challenging time of Covid19, the use of masks is advised; however, it is still possible that you may want to wear and give makeup as gifts during the holidays.
A nice idea is that you can give to yourself and to others at the same time. That makes it a “win win situation”. I think we all need help finding some fun during these times. What can be better than giving to others.
Thrive Cosmetics is a company we have looked at before. Here’s a statement about what they are doing during this challenging period. “We partnered with nonprofit organizations like Donate Beauty, Beauty United, Self-Esteem Rising and Maimonides Medical Center who helped distribute our products to those fighting on the frontlines of COVID-19.“
Since the summer season of 2020 has started, let me share with you something that I truly enjoy at this time of year – Hydrosols aka Hydrolats.
HairBlues followers know that I am an essential oils enthusiast, and that I use them as a Complementary Assisted Method (CAM) for wellness enrichment. What makes essential oils even more attractive to me is that every time I attend a webinar about them, people from all over the world are also attending, trying to figure out how, when, and why these “gifts” from plants can help us. To quote the News Correspondent, Rachel Maddow, “Why is that?”
In her book “Hydrosols, The Next Aromatherapy”, Suzanne Catty refers to aromatherapy as a branch of “phytotherapy” (plant therapy).
The study of aromatherapy continues to give me “Aha moments“. In my research I find that the story continues – that essential oils can provide therapeutic benefits, which make one feel and live better. Suzanne Catty defines hydrosols as the equivalent of a homeopathic version of essential oils. To quote her, “Hydrosols are the condensate water coproduced during the steam-or hydro-distillation of plant material for aromatherapeutic purposes.” Continue reading Hydrosols: Plant Therapy and Essential Oils→

Did you know that drinking water to hydrate your body is not the only beverage that will satisfy the daily requirement? That’s right, coffee, beer and other soft drinks also qualify for getting liquids into your body. However, what I learned by reading about various ways to get that ‘boring glass of water’ into this body is that you can get your water by eating other food items as well! Yaaay! Yes! How about eating some yogurt, which is 95% water? Don’t like yogurt? There’s more you can eat to satisfy the water requirement. For example, watermelon (92% water), lettuce (95% water), one medium apple (84% water).
Once again there is an opportunity to start fresh our commitment to create a healthful lifestyle, which adds longevity and happiness for ourselves, and loved ones. Living health conscious benefits us all. However, most of us need guidance, and can use a little help from our friends. That’s why I was happy to find the Fooducate app, which will aid you in being savvy about how to eat. Continue reading Living Healthwise for 2015→
As we welcome the beautiful changes of the seasons, we must also have remedies for what those changes bring to our health regimens. HairBlues searched for information we could use to counteract cold and allergy issues. For example, how can we distinguish the difference between when those sniffles are a cold or allergy? Do allergies appear only in the Spring, or do they also come during the Fall season? Continue reading Seasonal Health Remedies→

I am convinced aging is something we should welcome. The opportunity to share our mature years with our family and friends is certainly a blessing. Nevertheless, not only do we want to be fit, we also want to look our best. Feeling good about our appearance is important to many of us. So when a study comes out that helps us to do that, we are happy to learn about it.
In a recent study conducted at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia with 903 adults below the age of 55 that regular use of sunscreen show no increase in skin aging. In fact, the study showed that the adults who used sunscreen daily appeared 24 percent younger than those who did not use the sunscreen daily. Miracle? Maybe :), but I think many of us may consider using SPF protection going forward after hearing about these findings. you can read more about the study by clicking this link. via Sunscreen – The New Fountain of Youth? | Advanced Dermatology Blog – Dermatologists in NY and NJ.
Below is the scoop on some of the best moisturizers with SPF. Click on the link for details.
Sunscreens are essential for skin care day in and day out, 365 days a year. If applied correctly (meaning liberally and reapplied as often as needed), they are the best anti-wrinkle product you can use. In order to make the Best Products list, a moisturizer with sunscreen must: Provide broad-spectrum sun protection and be rated SPF 15 or greater. Help skin fight sun damage. Increase healthy collagen production. Contain a mix of antioxidants, skin-repairing ingredients, and cell-communicating ingredients. Protect skin from environmental damage. Improve skin texture. Contain the appropriate ingredients for your skin type. Not be packaged in a jar via Best Moisturizers With Sunscreen: Beautypedia Skin Care Reviews.
When I first got into my SPF obsession (back in my undergrad years of college), I didn’t really feel the need to shell out money for the most expensive brands. I was happy perusing the drugstore aisles for a decent moisturizer. I also wasn’t aware how important having an SPF of 30 was. The best one I found was Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer in SPF 15 ($16.99) (although a SPF 30 one does exist and I recommend getting that one). via Renee Jacques: I Tried Seven Popular Sunscreens And Found The Best One.
In the past HairBlues has focused mainly on hair loss and hair care suggestions. However, in the future this blog will focus on various types of beauty issues; nails, hair color processes that promote articles about beauty, and what others define as beauty.
♦ Are tattoos taboo, or beautiful? To whom? What is “body art”?
♦ What is the false hair and human hair industry doing for and to women? Which women primarily? What is ethical human hair?
♦ Is it important that you have a particular hair salon and hair beauty specialist attend to your hair?
♦ Does it make a difference if you pay $100 or $50 to have your hair done? What do hair specialist do, that you can not get done by doing it yourself?
♦ Can women get a good haircut at a barbershop?
♦ Are some beauty salons community hotspots where discussions of various topics, and seeing friends take place?
♦ Do nail gels ruin your nails? What do some people say about ultra violet nail drying machines?
HairBlues looks forward to the coming conversations, and exchanges. We hope that you will join in. The calendar format will change to a monthly update rather, than a post every other week.
